The west of Korčula is quieter than the east around Korčula town – with clear water, pebble coves and islands you reach by boat. These are our favourite spots.
Slatina – the bay at our door
From Korčulaia you walk through the olive grove straight to the water. Jump in from the jetty, snorkel along the rocks and often have the bay almost to yourself – with only a few houses around.
Proizd
The uninhabited island off Vela Luka is considered one of the most beautiful swimming spots in Croatia: pale rock slabs, turquoise water. Taxi boats leave Vela Luka harbour several times a day – with a bit of luck you'll see dolphins on the way.
Ošjak
The small wooded island in the middle of Vela Luka bay is also reached by taxi boat. Shady paths under pines and small swimming spots – perfect for half a day.
Pičena, Lučica and Martina Bok
- Pičena – pebble beach a few kilometres from Vela Luka, with a bar and kayak rental.
- Lučica – reached via a gravel road, clear green water, great for snorkelling.
- Martina Bok – stone beach with pine shade, about 7 km from Vela Luka.
More than beaches
- Vela Spila – the cave above Vela Luka is one of the most important prehistoric sites on the Adriatic; finds are on display at the town's cultural centre.
- Hum – the viewpoint hill with an old fortress, lovely at sunset.
Our tip: pack water shoes – many coves are rocky, which is exactly why the water is so clear.
